National Hockey League Players Association chief Marty Walsh issued a scathing statement following Mike Babcock’s resignation as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Walsh leaves no room for interpretation regarding the union’s position on Babcock’s actions toward the Blue Jackets players.
“Our players deserve to be treated with respect in their work environment. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen in Columbus. The organization’s decision to move forward with a different head coach was the appropriate response,” he said.
Recall that in an episode of the popular podcast Spittin’ Chiclets, former NHL player Paul Bissonnette accused Babcock of monitoring the contents of his players’ cell phones.
Multiple sources told Sportsnet informant Elliotte Friedman that Babcock scrolled through the contents of a cell phone for “several minutes.” This scene in particular would have put Babcock in distress.
Several Internet users had questioned the information provided by Bissonnette, who rejoiced at the turn of events on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
“We are on the players’ side. If you attack the players, your day will come,” he published.
We are a gamer podcast. If you screw the players, your day will come.
