A first look at Back to Black, the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic, has been released ahead of the film's release in April.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, whose study of John Lennon's early years, “Nowhere Boy,” won her critical acclaim, the film stars newcomer Marisa Abela as Winehouse, the London soul singer who released her debut album in 2003 and 2006 “Frank” became famous following Back to Black.

The media exploited Amy Winehouse's life. A new biopic is likely to do the same with her death

The singer-songwriter struggled with addiction and press intrusion and died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.

The film has the blessing of the Winehouse estate, which is overseen by Amy's father Mitch, played in the film by Eddie Marsan; The trailer shows her getting a tattoo that reads “Daddy's Girl” on her left arm.

Lesley Manville plays Amy's grandmother Cynthia (whose name was written on her right arm) and Jack O'Connell as her husband Blake Fielder-Civil from 2007 to 2009.
