Daniel Ricciardo will return to Formula 1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix to be held in Budapest next week.
The Australian driver will replace Nyck de Vries in the AlphaTauri team for the rest of the season.
Despite his impressive career in recent years (Champions in Formula 2 and Formula Electric), the Dutchman has endured a difficult learning curve since entering Formula 1 at the end of 2022.
He is one of only two drivers (along with American Logan Sargeant) not to score a single point in ten starts this year.
A fruitful day
For Ricciardo, who lost his steering wheel at McLaren at the end of last season, it’s a homecoming since he was recruited by AlphaTauri (ex-Toro Rosso) in 2012.
Not only did he learn on Tuesday that he was returning to the position of regular Formula 1 driver, but he was also invited to a test day at the wheel of a Red Team single-seater organized on behalf of tire manufacturer Pirelli. Bull, he’s a reserve pilot.
Ricciardo, 34, has had eight wins and 32 podiums in Formula 1 since the start of his career, which began in 2011 with the defunct HRT team.
The first of his victories came at the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix aboard a Red Bull.
