Dany Turcotte felt disdain for his generation of comedians while listening to the Les Olivier Gala on Sunday night, when the comedy community and certain very prolific comedians in the 1990s were like JiCi Lauzon, Mario Jean, Christian Bégin, Guy Nantel and Maxim Martin hurt the most.

During the gala, Dany Turcotte took a tweet on Twitter against “the contempt the new generation of comedians have for the old”, which he felt seemed to be generalised.

In her opening monologue, gala host Katherine Levac multiplied the arrows in place of Louis-José Houde (“too old”), Guy Nantel (“slower”) and Christian Bégin (“we’ve got to let him do his business”). ..”). Later in the gala, comedians Arnaud Soly and Virginie Fortin offered a number with two characters from old comedians from the 90s who complained that they couldn’t say anything anymore. They in turn were played by Mario Jean, Maxim Martin and JiCi Lauzon cheered.
However, along with agency QMI, the comedian from Groupe Sanguine and Levesque Turcotte qualified his remarks, recalling that while humor has evolved a lot in recent years, “it hasn’t done so in the past [forcément] throw in the trash.”
Sole holder of the Olivier for best humorous character, the category that died after his win, the comedian admitted to having a little misery with perception at times [que les nouveaux humoristes] have a sense of humor [sa] Generation”.
“Of course, the topics and the way of working have changed and that is perfect! I love to see the new faces of our humor go and I’m also proud to have been part of this beautiful gang from elsewhere,” he added, underlining the significant contribution of women in this environment that was once a ‘boys’ club ” was.
“Comedians of the new generation are extraordinary, creative, versatile and very funny. I especially like the space the girls have made in this environment which was really a boys club in the 90’s!” added Dany Turcotte.
With the Sanguin group and Levesque Turcotte, the comedian has sold more than a million tickets throughout his career.
