Bad blood: Taylor Swift fans sue Ticketmaster

Taylor Swift fans are suing Ticketmaster after being caught out by glitches, high fees and cancellations during ticket sales for her upcoming Eras tour, Deadline reports.

Driving the news: The group of fans is suing Ticketmaster for alleged fraud, price fixing and antitrust violations, accusing the company of “willful deception” by letting resellers buy most concert tickets, according to Deadline.

  • Ticketmaster was “eager to let scalpers into the presale,” the lawsuit said, in order to collect additional fees for resold tickets.
  • The lawsuit asks the court to fine the company $2,500 per violation — a penalty that would add up considering that more than 2 million tickets were sold during the Dec. 15 presale.

Catch up fast: The bad blood between Swifties and Ticketmaster comes after a series of technical glitches during presale led to a canceled public sale and prompted fan outcry.

  • Swift apologized for the situation, saying it was “agonizing for me just to watch mistakes happen without recourse.”

Remarkable: Congress also announced last week that it would hold a hearing before the Senate Antitrust Committee to address the ticketing service’s problems during presale and the “lack of competition in the ticketing industry.”
