NEW YORK, JANUARY 10 – At least four people have died in the southeastern United States due to storms, strong winds and tornadoes that devastated the region and much of the United States. Images circulating online from Panama City, Florida, show homes with roofs torn off, buildings leveled and roads impassable after a tornado hit the area. In some areas north of Alabama, the storms brought hailstones the size of baseballs. Of the confirmed fatalities, one person was killed and two others were seriously injured after a severe storm hit a mobile home park in Claremont, North Carolina. An 81-year-old woman died in Houston County, Alabama when her mobile home was lifted off its foundation. Also in Alabama, a man died after being crushed by a fallen tree, while another victim was recorded in Clayton County, Georgia, when a tree fell on his car windshield. In the United States, over a thousand domestic and international flights were canceled from the Northwest to the Northeast through the Midwest due to bad weather: Chicago O'Hare International Airport had the most cancellations, followed by Washington Airport and then New York.
