World War II epic All Quiet on the Western Front has dominated the Baftas, taking home seven awards including Best Picture.

It also won Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Non-English Language Film and Best Director for Edward Berger.

Its seven wins mean it has broken the Bafta record for most awards won by a non-English language film.

The Banshees of Inisherin were among the other big winners, winning Outstanding British Film and two acting awards.

Dublin-born Keoghan dedicated his supporting actor award to “the kids around here who dream of being something”.

In her own acceptance speech, Condon told McDonagh, “Thank you for all the parts you’ve given me throughout my career. You make me so proud to be an Irish woman.”

McDonagh also accepted the awards for Best Original Screenplay and Outstanding British Film.

After winning the latter, he joked, “Best which award?” but then clarified that Channel 4 funding made the film eligible for the category.

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic was another big winner, taking home four awards – best casting, costume design, makeup and hair, and best actor.

Austin Butler, who played the legendary singer in Elvis, said in his acceptance speech: “This is really extraordinary. To my fellow nominees, I am in awe of you. I’m so thankful for all the time we were able to spend together.”

He added: “I want to thank the Presley family, I can’t thank you enough for your love. I hope I made you proud.”

Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her performance in Tar, in which she played a disgraced orchestra conductor.

“These remarkable achievements break the myth that women’s experience is monolithic,” she said in her acceptance speech.

Carey Mulligan was incorrectly announced as the Best Supporting Actress winner before being corrected to Condon.

Deaf actor Troy Kotsur, who won a Bafta for Coda last year, was using sign language and an interpreter to announce the winner when the mix-up occurred. It was cut from later broadcast on BBC One.
