A video shared by Ukraine’s Presidential Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak shows the scene of devastation in the city of Bakhmut, one of the hardest hit by the war.
Streets full of rubble and several damaged buildings can be seen in the pictures.
Ukraine is still struggling to defend its “fortress” Bakhmut, but Russian forces are closing in after stepping up efforts to encircle the eastern city earlier in the year. In the last few days, Moscow troops have managed to advance into the southeastern and southwestern zones.
The eastern region of Ukraine has been hardest hit in recent times by fighting between Kiev and Moscow troops, who continue to fight for full control of the Donbass region.
In this regard, the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region is one of the cities most heavily attacked by Russia in recent months, with intense bombings forcing residents to stay in temporary shelters or even leave town.
Before Moscow invaded Ukraine a year ago, it was home to around 70,000 people, but now it’s a ghost town, virtually deserted and in ruins.
Keep in mind that Russian control of this city will open the Russian army’s way to Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, the main Ukrainian strongholds in the east of the country.
