An old woman trips on the front step of the bar and falls to the ground. The bartender looks at her and asks, “Excuse me madam, do you think this is the way to enter?”. No, this is not a joke. It is just one of the many anecdotes that tell the spirit and irony of a personality, Basilio Casciotti, 70 years old in December, one of the owners of Bar Casciotti in Piazza della Libertà in Sarnano. An activity that was open for the last Sunday today for the last time.

From tomorrow the historic restaurant of the Casciotti brothers Basilio, Alfredo and Donella will close after 49 years. The reason? “My brother is already retired, I just went. It’s easy, it’s over. Today is right to end with a nice party to greet everyoneSays Alfredo, who turns 67 on December 1, who ran the bar with Basilio. Two diametrically opposed characters who have always worked together.
“Yes, but also the increase in the bills, 35 euros a day in practice, which go away like this, doesn’t really make you want to continue», emphasizes Basilio. “It was a beautiful journey that is now coming to an end. Thank you to those who are here tonight and to all of our customers in general,” says Donella, 57, the younger sister, who never fails to give them the support they need to move forward. Three different but equal brothers who lived their lives in what tonight has always been what it has always represented: a piece of town square for generations and generations of Sarnanesi. “I’ll wait for you in Basilio” or “See you in Alfredo”, phrases that every citizen has uttered at least once in his life. The last cocktails of their lives are now being served behind the counter. Together with the classic “du ‘potatoes and du’ nocelle” they prepared the appetizers for the aperitif and gave everyone another unforgettable moment.
