Barack Obama shares the list of his favorite films of 2023 and adds a message honoring the writers and actors strikes that have brought Hollywood to a standstill.
“Earlier this year, writers and actors went on strike to demand better working conditions and protections. It has led to important changes that will transform the industry for the better,” Obama said in a social media post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Obama included films produced by Higher Ground, the production company founded by him and his wife, Michelle Obama. The former US president confessed to his fondness for films such as “Rustin”, “Leave the World Behind” and “American Symphony”.
“I'm biased since these films were produced by Higher Ground, but these are actually three of the best films I've seen this year,” he wrote.
Obama also shared his “other” favorite films of the year, including Christopher Nolan's “Oppenheimer,” in which Cillian Murphy played the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
The Ben Affleck-directed film “Air” about the origins of the “Air Jordan” basketball series also made the list. AV Rockwell's “One Thousand and Ones,” about a woman who kidnaps her son from the foster care system, was one of Obama's favorite films of the year.
Other films that made Obama's list included “The Holdovers,” “Blackberry,” “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Monster,” “Past Lives” and “Polite Society.”
