Barcelona have sued LaLiga for preventing them from increasing their payroll by 15%, as have the 38 clubs that voted to join the CVC Capital Partners fund to create LaLiga Impulso. As confirmed to EFE by sources from the Barça entity, Barça has filed a lawsuit against LaLiga in the Commercial Court No. 7 of the Catalan capital, which the clubs’ employers’ association learned about last Monday.

In it, Barça denounces that it cannot compete on equal terms with the other 38 clubs in the league who signed the agreement with CVC in August 2021. The other three who refused to support the project were Real Madrid, Athletic Club and Ibiza. This agreement, which saw LaLiga cede 10.95% of its business to CVC in exchange for €1,994m, enabled the creation of LaLiga Impulso, which stipulates that 70% of the funds received from clubs each season must be invested in infrastructure. Another 15% must be used to cover financial debt, while the remaining 15% can be used by clubs to increase the salary cap of their respective sports teams.

Barcelona understand that in the current situation they cannot compete with the same rules as the rest of clubs when it comes to financial ‘fair play’ terms. Since you can’t raise your employees’ salary cap by that percentage and you don’t know what budget or income line could do it if it did. This has prompted him, according to the Catalan company, to assert in court what he believes is a right that LaLiga prevents him from exercising.
