(CNN) – Barton Cowperthwaite, who starred in the 2020 Netflix ballet series Tiny Pretty Things, has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Cowperthwaite wrote about her health update in an Instagram post on Friday, saying that she had been diagnosed with “at least a stage 2 glioma” and that “it is a fairly large brain tumor.”
“The only treatment for something like this is brain surgery. So far the doctors are confident that they can remove most of the tumor and that after successful surgery and some rehabilitation I will be myself again (amazing, talented, brilliant, hilarious),” he wrote.
The actor also said that he and his family had planned to visit other doctors for a second opinion, but for now he plans to undergo surgery next week.
“I will do my best to be open about the journey here,” he wrote, adding, “I plan to make a full recovery to be better than my former glory!”
His post included a photo of himself in a hospital gown and a few photos showing his brain scans.
On Saturday, Cowperthwaite said in a video posted to his Instagram account that the “lemon-sized” brain tumor was discovered during a scan he underwent after suffering “multiple seizures” over the past eight weeks.
He thanked his followers for their overwhelming support, saying: “Words cannot express my gratitude and I am simply overwhelmed.”
Cowperthwaite is a professional dancer who appeared in the only season of Tiny Pretty Things when it debuted on Netflix in 2020. He also appeared in the 2016 television film Center Stage: On Pointe, the third installment of Center Stage, and the 2019 miniseries Fosse/Verdon.
The actor was set to appear in the off-Broadway play “Lone Star,” a Vietnam War-era black comedy by James McClure that will be released later this month.
