Baseball: Frustrated player has no respect for recent opponents

Though his team missed their last two games against the Washington Nationals this weekend, San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts feels his rivals are no match and isn’t afraid to say so.

The California team has been struggling this season and hasn’t improved, losing 2-0 on Saturday and 8-3 the next day. At the end of a disappointing day of homework, Bogaerts offered his thoughts on the American capital’s representatives, who finished last in the East Division of the National League of Baseball with a record of 30-47.

“Frankly! We played the Nationals. […] “I don’t think their goal is to be in the playoffs,” he told The Athletic. Certainly they have a young team and will fight. However, I don’t think a single person picked her for the playoffs. So you have to beat the clubs that you usually have to beat.”

However, the former Boston Red Sox would do well to take a closer look in the mirror as he has scored four goals in his last 31 plate appearances. The Padres are certainly hoping for better from him, who has a 37-41 record.

“Is it a lack of fighting spirit? I don’t believe it at all. Still, maybe we’re trying to do a little too much,” Bogaerts mused.

San Diego will visit the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
