Baseball: Wander Franco is reportedly wanted in the Dominican Republic

It appears authorities in the Dominican Republic are searching for Tampa Bay Rays player Wander Franco.

On Tuesday, Dominican daily Listin Diario reported that the city of Santo Domingo's Department of Child and Youth Safety conducted two searches to find the 22-year-old athlete, but without success.

Police reportedly stopped at both Franco's mother and the shortstop's home. Neighbors reportedly claimed that police officers left phone numbers for the athlete's wife to contact them.

Franco is reportedly wanted for an alleged relationship with an underage young woman. In connection with this affair, he was also unable to finish the last major baseball season.

In August, the name of the Rays' color carrier was placed on the ineligible list. In a short press release in the Tampa Bay Times newspaper, the Florida club mentioned that the Manfred District was continuing its investigation.

A few weeks earlier, a 14-year-old girl said on social networks that she had had an inappropriate relationship with Franco. Police investigations have been launched in the Dominican Republic. He was later linked to a second such complaint.

This season, Franco has totaled 17 home runs, 58 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. At the end of November 2021, he signed a fantastic 11-year contract worth $182 million.
