Bashar Al Assad commits to strengthening Syria China ties

As part of his first official visit to the country in more than 12 years, the president spoke with the Asian giant’s Prime Minister Li Qiang.

Al-Assad stressed that bilateral friendship and trust are based on a similar history and firm principles on which to move forward.

“The relations between our two countries could be further strengthened through the three initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping to develop cooperation in the economic and cultural fields and create joint investment projects under the Belt and Road Initiative,” he stressed.

The president stressed that “most countries in the world are waiting for the Chinese yuan to become a global currency to get rid of the dollar, which has become the Western weapon against the nations of the world.”

At another time, Al-Assad thanked the Chinese government for its support in his war against terrorism and in dealing with the aftermath of the earthquake disaster.

On this subject, the Chinese Prime Minister reiterated the support of the Asian giant in rebuilding and consolidating stability in this country.

“Development in Syria is facing sanctions and sieges, and therefore China would like to take the opportunity to announce the establishment of strategic relations to support Syria and transform Syria’s geographical advantages into development and opportunities,” he added.

In addition, the Prime Minister reiterated that he welcomes the Levantine country as a partner in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Syrian president arrived in the Asian giant last Thursday, attended the opening of the 19th Asian Games in the eastern city of Hangzhou with other leaders, met with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and the country’s top lawmaker.

During this visit, the two countries agreed to establish a bilateral strategic partnership and signed an agreement on economic cooperation, a memorandum on exchanges and cooperation in the field of economic development, and a memorandum on cooperation within the framework of the visit Belt and Road Initiative.
