Batman movie box office and end credits scene explained

Batman promises to be one of the most successful post-pandemic films.

Four days later, including previews, Matt Reeves’s Caped Crusader has grossed $128.5m (£97m) at the box office.

These numbers, provided by Comscore, put it as the fifth biggest March premiere behind Beauty and the Beast ($174m/£131.5m), Batman v Superman ($166m/£125.5m), Captain Marvel ($153.5m/£116m) and The Hunger Games ($152.5m / £115.5m).

With its release coinciding with the news that mandatory indoor masks are being lifted in several key territories, The Batman’s box office looks set to grow exponentially over the next few weeks.

It also makes The Batman the biggest film of 2022 to date and the second film to break the $100 million mark in its opening weekend. The first was Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released in December 2021.

Fans are wondering if they need to sit through the credits of a scene that could tease future releases of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman.

It has now become the norm to attach post-credits scenes to the end of superhero movies. However, Reeves’ film has more of a teaser than a full scene.

In fact, those who stick around to see what treats are in the shop might be a bit confused.

At the very end of the film, the words “Goodbye” and a green question mark, presumably courtesy of the Riddler (Paul Dano), appear on the screen. Then some text flashes on the screen that is sure to leave viewers rummaging around to find out what it was.

It turns out the text is actually the URL of the Rat Alada website, which provided clues to the movie ahead of its release.

If you visit the website, you will find yourself in a battle of wits with the villain himself as he asks you three questions.

If you answer all three questions correctly, you will be sent a secret video.

*Spoilers ahead – you’ve been warned*

Find the questions the Riddler asks you below, and if you run into trouble, the answers have been provided as well (thanks to this smart group on GamesRadar).

1. “This is more than just a game. Fear the one who hides behind one.” Mask

2. “What was new is new again. Revival. Restoration. Reformation”. Update

3. “Firstly, I am a trickster or a trick, or maybe both. It depends on your misinterpretation.” Confusion

The video you will receive as a reward is an excerpt from the campaign trail of Thomas Wayne. Thomas Wayne is, of course, the father of Batman himself, Bruce Wayne.

However, Riddler drew some phrases on the video – and if you listen carefully, you can hear the villain himself breathing over the clip.
