Andy Muschietti takes over the helm of The Brave and the Bold.
Andy Muschietti, whose new film The Flash has just hit theaters, is set to direct Batman: The Brave and the Bold, the first Batman film in the new official DC Studios continuity directed by James Gunn and Peter Safran (in contrast). to the sequel to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, which now exists under the non-canon DC Elseworlds label).
There are at least two Batmans in “The Flash” (Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton), so at least Mussetti has some practice with the character.
The Brave and the Bold was announced by Gunn and Safran as new DC Studios bosses unveiled their first projects earlier this year. It is based on a comic book series by Grant Morrison, in which Bruce Wayne’s Batman is joined as Robin by his biological son Damian – a trained assassin for good reason. Gunn said it would be “sort of the start of the bat family in the…”. [DC Universe].” The movie has not yet been assigned a writer.
“We saw The Flash even before we took charge of DC Studios, and we knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director, but also a huge DC fan,” Gunn and Safran told Variety in one Explanation of their new attitude. “It’s a great film – funny, emotional, suspenseful – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world resonates in every frame. When it came to finding a director for The Brave and the Bold, there really was only one choice. Luckily Andy said yes.”
While not everyone might agree on the quality of “The Flash,” there’s a good case to be made that pussyetti goes well with “The Brave and the Bold.” His handling of Michael Keaton’s Batman as a less tormented loner and more of a fatherly antagonist to unruly younger heroes is one of The Flash’s most successful elements, and seems to tie in well with the return of Batman and Robin to cinema screens for the first time since Joel Schumacher’s ill-fated film from 1997.
Before “The Flash” he was in charge of Warner Bros. hugely successful two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s It and the horror breakout Mama.
The other projects in the DC Studios reboot titled Chapter One: Gods and Monsters are Superman Legacy (written and directed by Gunn himself), The Authority, a Supergirl movie, Swamp Thing and the TV series Creature Commandos , Waller , Booster Gold, Lanterns and Wonder Woman prequel Paradise Lost. With plans already set for twist and turn heroes Superman and Batman, it seems Gunn and Safran have their priorities straight.
