One of the leaders of America’s hard right said on Sunday he wanted to fire the Republican leader of the House of Representatives after he succeeded, with support from Democrats, in rolling back the paralysis of the federal administration.

“I fully intend to file a motion to impeach President (Kevin) McCarthy this week,” Florida lawmaker Matt Gaetz said on CNN.
“Go ahead,” Mr. McCarthy immediately responded on CBS.
“I will survive this fratricidal initiative,” assured the man who was elected after numerous negotiations with the Trumpists and who had said the day before that he was aware that he was risking his seat.
In a final attempt to prevent the paralysis of the American government, a resolution proposed by Mr. McCarthy was passed by Congress on Saturday evening just three hours before the shutdown with Democratic support.
Matt Gaetz, along with other Trump Party elected officials, is pushing for drastic cuts in government spending. He accused Mr. McCarthy on Sunday of “lying to House conservatives.”
“Kevin McCarthy’s goal was to make several contradictory promises to delay everything […] and ultimately break down spending barriers,” he charged.
“I believe we need to move forward, with a new leader we can trust,” he said. “The one thing they all have in common is that no one trusts Kevin McCarthy,” Gaetz said.
For his part, Mr. McCarthy accused the Florida elected official of being “more interested in television interviews than action.”
“He wanted to push us to a standstill and even threaten his own constituency,” he said. “If he’s angry because he tried to force us to shut down and I made sure the administration didn’t shut down, then let’s have this fight.”
Kevin McCarthy was elected speaker of the House of Representatives on the 15th ballot in January when Trumpists finally agreed to support him in exchange for major concessions, including a return to allowing individual lawmakers to vote on impeachment of the speaker. Bedroom.
A concession that still haunts him today.
If Kevin McCarthy is still speaker of the House by the end of next week, Matt Gaetz said, that means he has the support of Democrats.
On Sunday, progressive Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she would vote to fire Mr. McCarthy because he viewed him as “very weak” in his position.
“It’s not up to Democrats to save Republicans, especially from themselves,” she said on CNN.
