BBB24: Vinicius Rodrigues receives a reduction in his athlete allowance from the Ministry of Sports due to a reality show

Paralympic athlete Vinicius Rodrigues had his athlete scholarship suspended by the federal government after joining “BBB 24”. According to Notícias da TV, the boy received an amount of R$ 15,000 per month and can request a review of the performance once he leaves the reality show.

According to the portal, Vinicius was notified this Tuesday (9) through the National High Performance Secretariat. In the note, the Ministry of Sports explains that the cut occurs because the runner has to interrupt his training while participating in the program. “The Ministry of Sports informed the athlete Vinícius Rodrigues on September 1, 2024, through the National High Performance Secretariat, of his participation in the reality show Big Brother Brasil 2024 produced and shown by TV Globo,” the text began.

As soon as he leaves the most guarded house in Brazil, Vinicius will be notified again and, if he has returned to the approved sports plan and participates in training and competitions, can receive the scholarship again. “If this does not happen, the athlete’s performance will be permanently withdrawn. “The athlete has been a scholarship holder since 2016 and has so far received the Pódio scholarship worth R$15,000 per month,” the ministry added. Finally, the organization reported that it learned about the athlete's participation in the reality show only when he was announced as one of the participants.

A similar situation occurred on “BBB 22”

Sprinter Paulo André also had to accept a reduction in his performance when taking part in “BBB 22”. In March, when PA had already been participating in the program for two months, the Special Secretariat for Sports announced the decision to suspend the scholarship, claiming that noncompliance with the annual training program was the reason for the cut. The financial support that the athlete received amounted to R$ 1,850.00 per month and was the result of the result achieved by Paulo André at the Pan American Games in Lima 2019, when he became silver medalist in the 100 meter dash.

Even after leaving the program, he continued to approve of the government's stance. “I think it’s fair [ter perdido a bolsa]. I don't know. I learned many things in a very superficial way. I wasn't active, so that's how it is. I have to accept it. I'm a guy who accepts whatever is in the rules. I don't know exactly what happened. Now it’s time to get back to work to once again receive the merit of being part of Bolsa Atleta,” explained the former BBB member during an appearance on “Esporte Espetacular”.
