BBC RADIO 1 star is calling it quits after 21 years and 100,000 hours on air – with her final show just weeks away

He joined Radio 1Xtra in 2002 and has a whopping 100,000 hours on air.

But now DJ Ace has announced that he has ended his R&B Saturday show and will say goodbye with one final broadcast on January 20th.

The music lover, real name Ashley Asomani, is also a DJ outside of the studio and has toured the world supporting the likes of Snoop Dog, 50 Cent and Lil' Kim.

In a statement he said: “After two decades, various daytime slots and over 10,000 hours of broadcasting, I have decided it is time to move on.”

“I have enjoyed my time at 1Xtra and have so many proud moments to reflect on.”

“I’m very grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had.”

He will be replaced by DJ Chuckie, who said: “This is a very surreal and sensational moment for me.” “I am very grateful to be part of the 1Xtra team and look forward to creating some quality musical moments with listeners .”

Radio1 Xtra said: “DJ Ace has decided to leave the station after 21 years.” Ace has been an integral part of the station over the years, hosting some of its most iconic moments.

“Thank you for everything Ace, Ace’s final R&B show will be Saturday January 20th.”

This comes after Clara Amfo quit her job as a presenter at sister station BBC Radio 1.

The 39-year-old DJ, who competed on Strictly Come Dancing with Aljaz Skorjanec in 2020, made a statement on Tuesday, sharing a post of her in the recording studio on Instagram.

She wrote: “It is with great gratitude and reflection that I have made the decision to say goodbye to Future Sounds on @bbcradio1.⁣.”

“I'll save the long paragraphs (because you know I love them!) for my final show, but for now I want to say that I'm so proud of the work I do on every type of show throughout the year years from the 8th floor, up and down the UK and in random pop star houses!

Clara, who is believed to earn around £150,000 a year, was inundated with comments from her fans and famous friends.

Radio 1 star Greg James wrote: “Love yeeeeeeeeeew” and Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball gushed: “Oh Clara, there are new adventures ahead.” Big love to you goddess x'
