BBC reverses meaning of Israeli statement and apologizes

The traditional British broadcaster BBC continues to be embroiled in controversy because it is accused of antiIsrael bias in its journalistic coverage of the conflict. In the last few hours, the television channel completely changed the meaning of a statement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The IDF statement, reproduced by news outlets such as Portal, said: “The IDF forces include medical and Arabicspeaking personnel who have been trained with the intent of not harming civilians.”

In the BBC version it looked like this: “Portal reports that Israel is targeting both people, including medical workers and Arabic speakers.” The video was played on several profiles on X, formerly Twitter, that follow the news.

By reversing the meaning of the statement, the BBC is contributing, albeit unintentionally, to the rise of the wave of antiSemitism that is worrying the West. Moments later, the channel released a statement admitting the error: “We apologize for this error, which fell below our editorial standards.” Watch:

At a meeting with the Jewish community at a London synagogue, the channel’s leaders acknowledged that the channel had made serious mistakes in recent days and also apologized.

“IDF forces are conducting a precise intelligence operation in a specific area of Shifa Hospital
11/15/23

Based on intelligence and operational needs, IDF troops conduct a precise and targeted operation against Hamas in a specific area in Shifa Hospital.

The IDF is conducting a ground operation in Gaza to defeat Hamas and free our hostages. Israel is at war with Hamas, not with the civilian population of Gaza.

IDF forces include medical teams and Arabic speakers. who have undergone special training to prepare for this complex and sensitive environment, with the intention that no harm be caused to the civilian population who are used by Hamas as human shields. In recent weeks, the IDF has publicly warned several times that Hamas’ continued military use of Shifa Hospital jeopardizes its protected status under international law and has given sufficient time to stop this illegal abuse of the hospital. Yesterday, the IDF again informed the relevant authorities in Gaza that all military activities inside the hospital must cease within 12 hours. Unfortunately that didn’t happen.

The IDF also facilitated largescale evacuations from the hospital and maintained regular dialogue with hospital authorities.

We call on all Hamas terrorists present in the hospital to surrender.”
