The Trudeau government has turned into a caricature a noble desire to give minority citizens their place in society. By striving for extreme inclusiveness in all matters, we have created sheer aberrations that appear gross injustices in the eyes of sane people.
The most recent case blew me away: The Clean Technology in Agriculture program offers two levels of grants. When purchasing a green technology, the white male farmer will be refunded 40% of the amount. For the same purchase, a woman, a visible minority, an indigenous person, a youth, a disabled person or a person identifying as 2SLGBTQI+ will receive 50%.
Because the program can support projects up to $2 million, the difference can be significant. Quick math: 40% of $2 million is $800,000; 50% is $1 million. So a nice extra $200,000 for buying the same farming equipment. Because you fall into a category.

Green equipment
However, the goal of this program is to decarbonize the economy. If the percentage grant needed to be varied, it should be based on the effectiveness of the new technology and its performance in reducing greenhouse gases. Not based on the applicant’s skin color or sexual practices.
What particularly interests me is the management of such a program.
Government programs work well when the criteria are clear. You tick a box, provide supporting documents and official endorsements, and proceed to process the application.
How about a criterion like belonging to 2SLGBTQI+? Furthermore, in another program of the same ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture, we tend to speak of 2SLGBTQI+.
same thing? Different? However, the secret code of letters, numbers and the + that we must align to say we are REALLY inclusive changes every year.
Who checks what?
When a farmer ticks the 2ELGBTQI+ box, who checks what? Firstly, I am convinced that there are not three officials in the entire Ministry of Agriculture who are able to identify what each letter and the 2 and the + mean. Like 99.9% of the population elsewhere.
And if we then assume that a person says they identify with one of the letters, what are we checking? His sexual practices? His preferences? Also his fantasies? Can the farmer who is married but had an experience with another man at the age of 20 be classified as bisexual? Do nude photos have to be provided? An affidavit from the partner at the time?
And then the “+” is there to include people who identify with an even wider variety of sexual and gender groups. You could be one of them.
At $200,000, it’s tempting to recommend that anyone in their right mind give it a try. No official will dare to question you about it. However, if you consider yourself a minority, it would be discriminatory to ask you even the slightest question!
At some point you have to answer the absurd with the absurd!
