It comes after Ewan revealed his changing view of parenthood after welcoming a baby with his new wife Mary.
The actor was married to his first wife Eve Mavrakis, 56, for 22 years and the couple have four daughters together. But in 2017 he was pictured kissing his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth, 37, which led to his divorce in 2020 and his second marriage in April this year.
Ewan and Mary share a son, Laurie, and the actor reflected on twenty years of parenting, including his “difficult” period of estrangement from eldest daughter Clara, in a candid interview with British GQ.
The Scottish star explained how lockdown changed his view of balancing work and family life as he realized it had been decades since he had stayed in one place for more than a few months.
“I just want to be there.” “I don't want to be away in Romania for four months,” he told GQ. “If it has to happen, maybe it has to happen, but I'm trying really hard not to.”
Reflecting on the years spent raising his four daughters Clara, 26, Jamyan, 20, Esther, 19, and 10-year-old Anouk, which coincided with his heady post-Trainspotting career high, Ewan mused: “Before I just felt like a gypsy. “I was always a father first, but I was away a lot.”
Ewan and Mary met on the set of their television series Fargo in 2016, before the actress split from her husband of seven years, Riley Stearns, in May 2017. In January 2017, Ewan separated from Eve and filed for divorce.
Ewan and his eldest daughter Clara, 26, have had a rocky relationship since she branded her father's second wife a “piece of trash” and her father an “asshole” when pictures of them kissing for the first time emerged.
The father and daughter have been mending their relationship over the past five years and recently completed work on their first project together.
“You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder” is a film conceived by Clara in which Ewan explains his daughter's tone to him: “She tells me that she came up with the idea of writing about us.” At first I was a little nervous . I didn't know what that meant.'

The film focuses on a father-daughter road trip where Ewan's character drives his daughter, played by Clara, to rehab. While the ride is fictional, the premise of a father wanting to help his daughter is based on Clara's own experience.
“I sat down to read it and I was blown away. It was a beautiful story about us. “There are things that are wrong or distorted, but still reflect our alienation for a while,” the actor explained.
“The trip is fictional. But for a few years we kind of lost her. So the plot is about her realizing that she needs the help that her father is trying to give. Along the way, their relationship heals somewhat.'
“I was so impressed by the story, the humor. There is a kind of recognition in that that made me very proud and at the same time very connected to her. “I felt like she understood more than I thought.”
When asked by GQ what he thought his daughter understood, Ewan explained: “My position, but also things about how to raise someone who is in trouble. “It's a terribly difficult situation. You're so afraid of what can happen. You will do anything in the world not to lose her.'
Later, in a rare comment, he reflected on his difficult separation from Clara's mother: “A divorce in a family is a bomb that goes off in everyone's life – in my children's lives. The kind of healing is underway.”
