JT O’Sullivan, creator of YouTube channel The QB School, chuckled in his latest video about how much bigger the Bears’ night against the Washington Commanders could have been.
They won by 20 points, but O’Sullivan pointed out in his latest video that Justin Fields and the Bears missed several free throws that could have made it much more entertaining.
It’s another week and another must-see movie breakdown. In contrast to the first few weeks, the mood is much more optimistic after a Bears win based on phenomenal play from Fields.
The Bears ticked all the boxes for O’Sullivan. He points out some missing elements, but they are all marginal adjustments.
He pointed out the throws Fields missed, such as the sailing route to Darnell Mooney and the end zone look to DJ Moore that he overthrew. O’Sullivan pointed out that Fields’ footwork was a persistent problem that the young signal-caller would need to address if he wanted to make those throws.
The biggest sigh of relief O’Sullivan pointed to was the play of the Bears and Luke Getsy. Similar to last year, Getsy changed the offense to fit Fields’ strengths; His legs are most clearly visible. No more straps in your pocket and no more flooded schedule calls.
It’s an offense that completely suits Fields. There were quarterback-designed runs, sweeps, deep routes, mobile pockets and RPOs. They call it. If Fields feels comfortable, the Bears have run it.
“There was innovation. There was no predicting what they did,” O’Sullivan said.
The result? A boatload of production.
Fields threw for 282 yards with a 52% completion rate on 29 attempts. He also managed 57 rushing yards on 11 attempts. He threw four touchdowns – three to DJ Moore – and recorded just three sacks against an intimidating, legitimate Washington defensive line.
It appears that the pendulum has swung the other way in favor of the bears after Thursday night. And O’Sullivan can confirm the justified optimism – at least from an offensive perspective.
“You have to be pretty optimistic about this offense and what it looks like,” O’Sullivan said.
