An adventurous couple could have the opportunity of a lifetime when they run a 150-year-old bed and breakfast converted into a lighthouse on an island in San Francisco Bay.
The East Brother Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast is looking for two new innkeepers to replace current owners Stephanie and Bryan Wesolek in April. The Wesoleks were also innkeepers in 2014.
Every two years the lighthouse changes hosts, whose job it is to run the bed and breakfast and chauffeur guests to and from the island.
The beautiful property sits on a 1-acre island in San Francisco Bay near the tip of Point San Pablo.
The lighthouse has been an active lighthouse since 1873 and was restored and converted into a cozy five bedroom inn in 1979 to raise money for the lighthouse’s operations.

To be considered for the task of maintaining the stunning lighthouse, applicants must apply as a couple and one of them must hold a current US Coast Guard Captain’s License. Applicants with children and pets will not be considered.
In addition to preparing and serving breakfast and dinner, the couple would need to be able to do housekeeping and shuttle guests on the roughly 10-minute drive to the mainland.
The inn is open Thursday through Sunday evenings four days a week, while the island itself can be booked for the day or for special events.
The couple who will get the jobs would have to report to the island in mid-April, after which they would receive a two-week training course.
The couple’s board and lodging at the lighthouse would be provided by the non-profit organization.
The couple will also receive a combined salary of $140,000 plus $10,000 for insurance and four weeks of vacation, Richmond Mayor Tom Butt said.
Though living in a lighthouse might sound like a dream come true, Butt says the two years will be filled with hard work.
