Warner Bros. notably confirmed that Michael Keaton would find the unforgettable traits of Beetlejuice, while Winona Ryder would once again play the character of Lydia Deetz, a role revealed by the then 16-year-old actress. However, the cast is expanding with new characters, most notably Lydia’s adult daughter, a role played by none other than Jenna Ortega, star of the hit TV series Wednesday, also directed by Tim Burton.

According to The Daily Beast, there have been rumors about a Beetlejuice sequel for years, with Tim Buron hiring screenwriter Jonathan Gems to work on a sequel to the film, set in Hawaii, back in the early 1990s. After a few more failed attempts, the project sat on hold until Seth Grahame-Smith signed a deal with Warner in 2011 to make Beetlejuice 2 a priority. Grahame-Smith told Entertainment Weekly in 2015 that he had done some draft scripts, noting that most of the original cast were interested in taking on the necklace.

Four years later, the project faltered again, but the arrival of Jena Ortega last March seemed to give it the breath it needed to finally find its way back to theaters. However, the exact date when filming began is still unknown.
