Beheaded for a cup of tea

A furious husband is said to have beheaded his wife in a fit of violent rage because her morning cup of tea was “late”.

The suspect, whose only name is Dharamveer, killed his wife Sundari with a sword in their home in the village of Faljagadh near the capital Delhi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, according to police.

The 52-year-old worker delivered 15 sword blows to his 50-year-old wife before beheading her because she took too long to prepare her drink, Indian media reports.

The local police chief said the husband woke up a few minutes after his wife, who had already started preparing the drink, and immediately asked where it was.

After being told that it would take another ten minutes, Dharamveer flew into a rage and rushed to grab a gun, which he then allegedly used to beat his wife while she was sitting on the stove.

The couple's four children slept in another room.

Her son named Soldier heard her screams and rushed to the scene where he saw his mother bleeding to death.

Dharamveer allegedly attacked his son and other children who tried to help their mother. They fled to their room.

Alarmed by the screams, the villagers also rushed to their houses and found Sundari dead in a pool of blood.

The police were called and Sundari's body was sent for an autopsy. Dharamveer was arrested.

Soldier told Indian media that his father used to drink five or six cups of tea a day.

He added that Dharamveer often got angry and shouted at his mother when she refused to make tea or when it was late, but he never hit her until then.

The investigation is ongoing.
