A divorce that was finalized on Monday January 9, the details of which were revealed to People magazine by David Glass, the family’s lawyer. A privately negotiated contract
A consensus that the two ex-spouses would have reached even without the help of the court. “A separation agreement under Washington law is when you tell your spouse, ‘We’re going to get a divorce and we can work out all the details ourselves. Let’s put that in an agreement and let the court know that we’ve got everything set up,” David Glass told People in September 2022. And that’s exactly what they did here.”
Before specifying: “Each of them had his lawyer and they chose who kept which property and goods. They decided that neither of them would ask for child support, and since they have no children together, they didn’t have to worry about child custody.” According to David Glass, Washington law also allows the two ex-spouses to keep the details of this agreement confidential “No one will ever know” exactly what this contract between MacKenzie Scott and Dan Jewett entails, the attorney said, unless they decide to make it public.
A “quick and smooth” divorce
After signing the agreement, the couple would have told the Washington court that they had a good and proper contract so that they would publish the divorce decree. A process that would have gone smoothly. According to the lawyer, page 3 of MacKenzie Scott’s divorce petition contains a consent form signed by Dan Jewett, who fully agreed to the terms of the contract. Which, for David Glass, likely helped make these moves quick and smooth.
“So there will be no trials or court dates, and no other documents will likely be sent to the court until the court says, ‘You are now divorced and all individually.'” The divorce was thus granted four months after the request of the Philanthropist who met her second husband in her children’s high school. The 50-year-old had previously given birth to three sons and a daughter adopted from China with Jeff Bezos, her 25-year-old husband. The Bezos announced their split in 2019. Since then, MacKenzie Bezos has vowed to redistribute a large portion of her fortune to charity.
