BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) — Authorities in the Chinese capital Beijing have issued an orange warning for severe air pollution, which came into effect at noon on Monday.
The orange alert, the second highest in the system used by the city, is activated when the city experiences severe air pollution for two consecutive days or moderate air pollution for three consecutive days.
From Tuesday to Thursday, local authorities will implement a series of emergency measures, including mandatory traffic restrictions on highly polluting vehicles.
The Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau has advised children, the elderly and those with respiratory, cardiovascular or other chronic diseases to stay indoors and others to reduce outdoor activities.
The company explained that the unfavorable weather conditions these days are due to the smog covering Beijing and neighboring regions.
According to the weather forecast, air quality is expected to improve on Friday.
