Beijing rejected new US sanctions against Chinese companies

Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin reiterated his opposition to Washington’s actions that insist on “overstretching the concept of national security.”

According to the spokesman, under the pretext of a “Russia-related” issue, the United States quickly reimposed unilateral sanctions on Chinese companies, which is a typical act of economic coercion and unilateral intimidation.

“The US side must immediately correct its irregularities and stop curbing and repressing Chinese companies,” he stressed.

In addition, he stressed that Beijing will take the necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of companies from this Asian country.

These new tensions come amid a context of bilateral rapprochement, preceded by the visit of senior White House officials to China and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s agenda in Washington.

Both sides agreed to “work together on a meeting” between Presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden this month, but that doesn’t mean the meeting is a given.

According to Wang Wenbin, “The road to the San Francisco Consensus is not easy and cannot be left on autopilot.”

The spokesman quoted the foreign minister as warning: “Both sides must seriously return to what was agreed at the Bali summit, truly implement the consensus of the two leaders, eliminate interference, overcome obstacles, improve consensus and collect results.” View of this bilateral meeting.

Bilateral relations are at the worst moment in their history due to the economic war against the Asian giant, disagreements over the conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East, and North American interference in domestic affairs, such as the Taiwan issue.

The United States has imposed a new round of sanctions on 130 companies and individuals from Turkey, China and the United Arab Emirates in an attempt to deny Russia access to tools and equipment allegedly linked to the conflict in Ukraine.
