Belgium, a car crashing into the crowd at the La Louvière carnival: 4 dead and 12 seriously injured

BRUSSELS A car drove into crowds taking part in a popular carnival demonstration in StrépyBracquegnies in the Wallonian village of La Louviere at 5am this morning Belgium. According to reports in the Belgian press, which quoted the mayor of La Louvière, Jacques Gobert, the car fled after driving into the crowd but was later intercepted.

In addition to the 4 victims, the first 12 are seriously injured and about twenty slightly injured. Nothing has been leaked yet about the reasons behind the driver’s steering.

The municipality has initiated its own emergency plan. “We have made the municipal sports hall available to the families and the victim support service has also been activated,” explained Gobert. The city of La Louvière had officially opened the carnival season with the passage in the yellow code at the beginning of March, following the relaxation of the rules related to the pandemic. The StrépyBracquegnies carnival was supposed to start on March 20th with the traditional Gilles meeting, where participants go from house to house, and continue on March 21st and 22nd.
