It is horrifying yet unbelievable news that unfolded in a small town in Belgium on Tuesday. According to our colleagues at Sud Info, a 71-year-old man brutally killed the small dog a couple had given him the day before. A dog that the defendant had claimed would fill his loneliness.
This sad story takes place in Wanze, a town between Liège and Namur. There, the seventy-year-old resident of a service building sees the days of his life passing by in the rhythm of severe loneliness. Abandoned by his family and friends, the only comfort the old man found was his dog Bouba. Except that the 10-year-old animal eventually passes the gun to the left, leaving its master in great confusion.
A couple struck by the plight of the seventy-year-old
The seventy-year-old then decides to launch a call for help on social networks. He wants a new four-legged friend to bring some joy back into an everyday life sadder than a broken heart. Eventually, his distress moves a couple who live a hundred kilometers away. This couple proposes to the seventy-year-old that they offer him Pantoufle, a small four-year-old Maltese, to compensate for his loneliness.
The couple therefore goes to the old man’s house and the meeting between the old man and his new companion is even filmed by our colleagues from Sud Info. In the eyes we see joy, emotions. The scene stays beautiful for a few hours before turning to horror. That same evening, Pantoufle, who is having a hard time adjusting to his new home, barks. Screams that the seventy year old can’t stop. At around 11 p.m., he grabbed a knife and slit the small dog’s throat.
The animal, found in agony early in the morning, succumbed to its injuries. Its former owners found out about the tragedy by asking for news. They will recover Slipper’s body to bury in their garden. A complaint must be filed before legal action can be taken.
