Bella Thorne couldn’t contain her anger during a new podcast appearance as she recalled a time a director allegedly sexualized her as a child.
The 25-year-old actress-singer spoke with Emily Ratajkowski on her podcast High Low, released Monday, about how a director once complained that she was “flirting with him.”
The former Disney Channel star, who spent Christmas in London with her boyfriend and family, was furious at how the unnamed man appeared to be uncomfortable around her, which appeared to be a contributing factor in her not getting the role got.
“I had feedback from a director once, and I was 10,” she began, before mentioning that the untitled project’s casting director called her agent.
Shocking: Bella Thorne, 25, claimed Monday on Emily Ratajkowski’s podcast High Low that she lost a role when she was just 10 because the director thought she was flirting with him
Bella’s agent then informed her mother that she was no longer in contention for the role.
“So she doesn’t go any further because the director felt like he was flirting with him and he was really uncomfortable,” she said.
‘Oh my god, you were 10?’ added a shocked Emily.
‘What the hell are you talking about, man?!’ yelled an indignant Bella.
Ridiculous: “So she doesn’t go any further because the director felt like he was flirting with him and he was really uncomfortable,” she told a casting director, who passed it on to her agent. ‘Oh my god, you were 10?’ added a shocked Emily
‘What the hell are you talking about, man?!’ yelled an indignant Bella. “I don’t give a shit what I said! I don’t care if I said, “Now eat my p****!” She is 10 years old. Why would you think that?!’
“I don’t give a shit what I said! I don’t care if I said, “Now eat my p****!” She is 10 years old. Why would you think that?!’ Bella continued, referring to herself.
Emily pointed out that the director, who thought it was “a real issue,” may have hinted at just how much he sexualizes kids.
Bella also noted that most actors in a “director’s session” don’t have the power to “say or do much,” so she didn’t see how the director could even give the impression that she was flirting.
“You do the scene, you say hi, you go out!” she said, before Emily added, ‘That’s a kid!’
Bella continued, “There’s no time like – “Let me sit on your lap!” – or you’ll be uncomfortable. What the hell!’
Head scratcher: Bella also noted that most actors in a “directing session” don’t have the power to “say or do much,” so she didn’t see how the director could even give the impression that she was flirting
Scary story: “If you need a f**ker up story about Hollywood and pedophilia and the sexualization of children, I don’t know if there is one,” Emily said
“And you just put it on a 10-year-old kid and doing it like they’re going to make a grown man uncomfortable is crazy,” Emily summarized the situation before calling the casting director to complain about the inappropriateness of the Director’s uncritically passed on the complaint.
“If you need a more fucked up story about Hollywood and pedophilia and the sexualization of children, I don’t know if there is one,” added the Gone Girl actress.
Emily has had her own experiences with sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry.
Last year she claimed in her collection of essays My Body that singer Robin Thicke sexually assaulted her by fondling her bare breasts while she was filming topless scenes for the controversial music video for his hit Blurred Lines.
