“Diane Dufresne represents boldness, poise and talent. She is an exceptional and comprehensive artist,” says Catherine Sénart. The actress will have the diva camping out in Diane Dufresne at the musical theater Belmont presented from August 4th at the Théâtre Alphonse-Desjardins in Repentigny.
Catherine Sénart describes Belmont as a theatrical flight, a surprising, atypical and poetic show, and an immense love letter to Diane Dufresne.
A thousand miles from traditional theater, this play brings together a unique visual world (striking pink make-up and costumes, sets reminiscent of the Belmont Park fairground), Diane Dufresne’s well-known and lesser-known repertoire, and diverse universes relating to different periods in the career of the 78-year-old Quebec singer. There are also original lyrics by Laurence Régnier.
“It’s a mind-blowing journey,” promises the actress, who has nothing but good words for the creators of Théâtre de l’œil Ouvert and Théâtre Come What Come, who are co-producing the show. In particular, Simon Fréchette-Daoust, the artistic director, and the idea generator and director Jade Bruneau, “an extraordinary artist who has created an extremely intelligent synthesis of Diane’s work”.
“It’s a generation of young people who are fearless. It is always very exciting to work with people of all generations, interesting encounters arise,” adds the 53-year-old actress, who was the niece of actress Louisette Dussault, who died on March 14 at the age of 82.
diva
If Catherine Sénart embodies the facet of the diva in Diane Dufresne, it is because the monument of Quebec song is presented through five major archetypes found in her songs: the diva, the madwoman (Geneviève Alarie), the little girl (Laur Fugère), the lover (Laetitia Isambert) and the artist (Catherine Allard). The clown is interpreted by Pierre-Olivier Grondin.
The actress – whom we hated so much on the series O’ a few years ago – will embody what it means to be in the spotlight for an artist like Diane Dufresne. She will emphasize the responsibility of the artistic gesture that comes with such status.
“Diane Dufresne dared things that no one had dared before. I am convinced that this role will change me. “It’s a great revelation for me to be in contact with Diane Dufresne in this way,” says the interpreter, who will reprise his role as a doctor in the third season of the series “Les bracelets rouges”.
The icing on the sundae? Diane Dufresne herself and her lover Richard Langevin supported the Belmont project. What’s more, after seeing a premise of the show, they were the ones who came to the creators to tell them that if they “ever wanted to do something with it, they’d be thrilled.”
“If I had him in front of me, I would say thank you,” adds the actress. She really opened the door to expression in all things exaggerated and intense. She took the liberty of doing so, and so did we. As soon as we as a woman go a little beyond the limits, we are told. She had the courage to keep going. »
