‘Floored’: Ben Shephard, 47, admitted he was ‘swept down by grief’ on Good Morning Britain on Friday as he revealed the shock of recently losing a close friend
Speaking to Richard, Ben opened up about his own loss and grieving journey, admitting it came as a huge shock.
He explained: “I recently lost a very close friend, a really big shock, out of the blue. And it was another friend who said grief is a little bit like a wave – it hits you suddenly and then it dissipates and then suddenly it comes back out of nowhere and hits you again.
“And that’s certainly something I’ve experienced, there will be a little moment where I’m suddenly blown away when a picture comes up or a tune comes on the radio that reminds me of my friend that we lost so dramatically and I’m back and I’m stuck in this sadness.

“Well, not stuck, but in the midst of that grief,” Ben continued as he tried to explain his feelings, with Kate interjecting, “In the rawness of it?” while Ben agreed.
Richard has previously opened up about the loss of his partner David in 2019 and has written books about grief.
And now the priest is leaving for the one-off documentary Good Grief? to Channel 4 to explore grief and how to live positively with it – and meets others throughout the show who are going through the same grieving process as he is.
Beating it up: Richard has previously opened up about the loss of his partner David in 2019, while also writing books on grief on the side
The priest explained: I think at first you think you want to get over it like it’s a cold, but it’s not a cold, it’s a lot more like losing a limb.
Kate turned the conversation back to Richard and asked, “Do you still find that in your lot?”
While Richard replied: “Oh yeah I think at first you think you want to get over it like it’s a cold but it’s not a cold it’s a lot more like losing a limb.
“So you have to get used to living with that, that means you have to get used to not limping, life will be different,” he concluded.
Open: Ben spoke openly about his recent loss during the brief segment while Kate comforted him
