Benedict Cumberbatch has reportedly invested in an £8.1million mansion on a sprawling estate in Somerset.

The Sherlock actor, 46, bought the property with his wife Sophie Hunter last May after first becoming interested in it two years earlier, according to The Sun.

It has been claimed that the property is home to a Grade II listed lodge, an organic farm, a 335-acre cider orchard, a wine cellar and a library.

A source told the publication: “It’s really beautiful, secluded and peaceful, perfect for getting away from it all.

“The house is historical, but equipped with every comfort. Locals in the nearby village know about the purchase.

“Everyone is happy about their new neighbors.”

A representative of Benedict was contacted by Web for comment.

It comes after Steven Moffat, the co-creator and showrunner of Emmy-winning series Sherlock, said he would begin writing season five of the show when stars Benedict and Martin Freeman commit to returning.

Moffat, 61, appeared on the BBC Today program on Monday and said he would “start writing tomorrow” when the actors who played Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the acclaimed series would commit to another season of the show.

“They have bigger and better things to do, but Martin and Benedict, ‘Will you come back, please?'” Moffat said, according to Deadline.

Set in London, the series ran for four seasons between 2010 and 2017 for a total of 15 episodes, also starring the late Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, Rupert Graves as DI Lestrade and Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper.

After completing Sherlock, both have been featured in high-profile projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Cumberbatch playing Doctor Strange while Martin has appeared in the Black Panther films as Everett K. Ross.

In the interview, Moffat was promoting his West End play The Unfriend and said that he and his collaborators “just started talking about the second season of his hit BBC/Netflix miniseries Inside Man”.

Moffat said the show, which stars Stanley Tucci and David Tennant, “does pretty well” in “the enthusiastically nodded graphics” that gauge public opinion.

The series, which casts Tucci as a convicted murderer who solves crimes from prison, initially got off to a slow start on Netflix before surpassing the five million mark on the streamer, the outlet reported.

Moffat said of the charts: “You don’t get any [ratings] No more number the next day, now you get an audience breakdown a month later.’

Moffat said of his new play, starring Sherlock star Amanda Abbington, “It’s about the exquisite agony of addressing difficult issues. How you do that?’

Now just watch Sherlock on Stan in Australia.
