BeReal now claims over 20 million daily active users. And with Bonus BeReal, the app lets you post more every day.
Be honest, iPhone App of the Year 2022, wants to let you know that it’s still very popular. The app sends a notification to its users at a different time every day, inviting them to share their activities via two photos, one taken by the front camera and the other taken simultaneously by the back camera. You only have two minutes to do this with the idea of sharing authentic life pieces – since you probably only need to manage your look, lighting, location, etc. -. Your friends will be notified if you post late or edit your photos.

This approach has raised a number of concerns. This has led to people sharing meaningless photos on their computer screens or pulling out their phones in the middle of class, the New York Times recently reported. Citing data from a specialist company, the newspaper also pointed out that the number of app users has fallen by around 61 percent to below 6 million in recent months as the novelty effect has disappeared and competitors have started to copy BeReal.
On its new blog, BeReal claims to have more than 20 million daily active users. In their first post, the BeReal team states that they have remained relatively quiet because they are very busy. “But [cela] means that people have an inkling of what we’re preparing and how it’s going, and not always exactly so’.

At the same time, BeReal introduced a feature that could increase engagement and potentially make users hesitate. Bonus BeReal, which the company is currently testing in the UK before launching globally soon, allows users to post two extra shots per day at a time of their choosing, as long as they share their standard BeReal in time.
This initiative may detract somewhat from the spontaneous authenticity that BeReal seeks to achieve by giving its users the ability to prepare and edit their additional publications. That being said, BeReal states that this feature may change in the future.
