Due to numerous setbacks, the Bundestag elections in September last year will be repeated in 431 constituencies in Berlin. A corresponding recommendation to the German Bundestag was decided today by its Election Review Committee with votes from the ruling SPD, Greens and FDP parties. Thus, 327 of the 2,256 constituencies in the capital and 104 of the 1,507 constituencies by correspondence are affected. The repetition must be done with first and second voice.
The Bundestag has yet to decide on this. It is considered certain that he – probably this week – will make a corresponding decision. However, according to the opinion of the parliamentary groups, this is likely to be challenged before the German Federal Constitutional Court, so it is unclear when the partial rerun of the election will take place.
The September 26, 2021 election was chaotic in many Berlin polling stations. There were long lines and waiting times, incorrect or missing ballot papers, which is why polling stations had to be temporarily closed. In many places, polling stations remained open until well after 6 pm to allow those waiting to vote.
