There are already new details about Berlin, the long-awaited prequel to La casa de papel. The Netflix series crew announced the start of their upcoming filming, which will take place in Paris and Spain, this Wednesday at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. It has also announced part of the cast that will accompany its protagonist Pedro Alonso: Michelle Jenner , Tristán Ulloa and Begoña Vargas will join Julio Peña and Joel Sánchez.

Jenner will be Keyla, the head of the gang and computer expert; Ulloa plays Damián, a close friend of Berlin and the voice of his conscience; Vargas becomes Cameron, the fun part of the group, a “bombshell” and a “roller coaster,” according to officials; Peña becomes Roi, Berlin’s squire; and Sánchez is Bruce, another of the most impulsive members.

“The series is set in an undetermined past,” announced its creator Álex Pina, who explained this Saturday at the platform’s digital event, Tudum, that the viewer can enjoy it “From a handbook of love and robbery, covering the golden age of this business thief as he robbed Europe with a horribly infatuated gang”.

This time around, the series will move away from the darkness of its predecessor, the screenwriter has advanced, with a story “based on romance and comedy.” “We wanted to do something brighter, with characters that the viewer would have a good time with after a pandemic and a war in Europe and an economic crisis,” he explains.

Tristán Ulloa, the group’s veteran actor, as he defines himself, is surprised by Berlin’s previous work, with dozens of versions of scripts “like he had never seen before,” he pointed out. “The good thing is that because of the success of La casa de papel, people will give us a chance. The bad part is that the tickets for disappointment are a lot bigger,” admitted Pina, who has assured that this prequel doesn’t have a closed ending in the minds of the writers.
