General Electric (GE) Appliances is recalling six refrigerator models sold nationwide at retailers including Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe’s because they caused injuries.
The handles on the doors of these freestanding fridges had come loose, posing a risk of falling for anyone attempting to open the freezer doors.
The Louisville, Kentucky-based manufacturer received 71 reports of handles falling off refrigerators. According to a statement published by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), these caused 37 injuries, including three serious falls.
About 155,000 of the stainless steel fridge freezers are on the recall list, with models between February 2020 and January 2022 costing between $1,900 and $2,500.
Below is a list of affected models:

GE customers with a recalled refrigerator can call the company at 888-345-4671, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or through its website here, to replace the faulty freezer handle fasteners.
The company announced in a separate note that the refrigerators can continue to be used without the repair by opening the edge of the freezer door instead of using the faulty handle.
