“Best investment ever” Russia starts criminal case according to US statement

In a meeting with the President of Ukraine, US Senator Lindsey Graham considers it the best investment of all time. What exactly does he describe as such it is impossible to understand from a video – that the Russians “died”? Russia launches criminal investigations.
The head of the Russian investigative committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has instructed his agency to initiate criminal proceedings over an alleged Russophobic statement by US Senator Lindsey Graham. “In a video that circulated online, US Senator Graham, meeting with the President of Ukraine, spoke about the financial involvement of the United States in the murder of Russian citizens,” the agency said on its Telegram channel. This declaration will now be legally evaluated.
The backdrop is a video posted by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on social media on Friday of his meeting with Graham. In the conversation, Zelenskyy thanked the United States for its help in helping Ukrainians defend their freedom. In Russia, Graham’s response in particular caused a sensation: According to Russian media, he reportedly said: “And the Russians were dying. The best money we ever spent” – roughly translated: “And the Russians died. Our best investment of all time.”
However, the word “die” cannot be heard clearly. There is therefore an online discussion as to whether he did not instead say that the Russians were finished – “finished”. There is also a pause between the two sentences because the video cuts out at this point.
Before the start of criminal proceedings, the Russian leadership had already sharply criticized Graham’s alleged statement. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov spoke of the “disgrace” such senators represented for the United States; Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said US investments caused World War II and the Holocaust. Now the US financed “the neo-Nazi Kiev regime”. Ukraine’s constant comparisons with Nazi Germany serve to justify its own war of aggression against the neighboring country.
