The American city’s city council voted on Aug. 29 to nominate the singer as honorary mayor. This is the day it happened and the community gave her a key to the city. The ticket was only valid for 24 hours, but this honor was very important to the 41-year-old artist.
During her concert at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on August 30, the Lemonade singer celebrated this unforgettable moment by reaching out and thanking her audience.
“I’m so happy to be on this stage,” Beyoncé said, reports Billboard. Your faces are so beautiful. You know this day is special because today I am mayor.
“This is my gratitude tour. “I don’t take any of this for granted,” she continued. I know that 25 years later, thanks to your faithfulness and prayers, I am still able to do what I love. I am so thankful to you.”
Santa Clara spokeswoman Michelle Templeton told Mercury News of the city council’s decision, “The City of Santa Clara looks forward to Beyoncé’s upcoming visit to the famed Levi’s Stadium… Her concerts are sure to bring great energy and excitement.” And indeed, it has helped the Californian city to international fame.
The singer is nearing the end of the final leg of her Renaissance world tour. A 56-date singing tour that began in Stockholm, Sweden in May, concludes in Kansas City, Missouri on October 1.
