A lobster caught in the US state of Maine is attracting attention online because of some unusual characteristics: it is half red and half blue and half male and half female.
According to Jacob Knowles, the lobster was brought to him by another lobsterman and the crustacean was nicknamed David Bowie, in honor of the musician’s famous androgynous style and mismatched eye colors. “I was very impressed with it,” Knowles told NPR. The information comes from the website Upi.com.

Extremely rare lobster
According to Knowles, lobster is an extremely rare find. “No one I spoke to at the port saw anything like this,” he said. “So that speaks volumes.”
Jordan Baker, a biologist at the New England Aquarium, said only one in 50 million crustaceans has Bowie’s twotone appearance.
“In this ontogenetic development, there are mutations or embryonic changes,” Baker said. “The combination of embryos or division that essentially produces two different animals.”
Knowles said Bowie is currently being held in a cage at sea. Baker said he hopes the lobsterman will consider donating Bowie to the aquarium, which already houses several unusually colored crustaceans.
