Biden and the asylum ban at the border

With the ban on asylum at the North American border, US President Joe Biden has taken up a measure taken by the US government Donald Trump.

The measure puts vulnerable people from the border area at risk, a decision that advocates for asylum seekers like the organization America’s Voice are considered illegal.

“The Biden administration’s new asylum-ban proposal is a policy eerily reminiscent of the approach of Trump and Stephen Miller, and a deliberate break with some of the traditions of which we are most proud as a nation,” said Director Douglas Rivlin by Communications of America voice.

Former White House official Andrea Flores complained that instead of making progress on addressing regional mass migration, white nationalists’ beliefs that asylum seekers from certain countries deserve less humanitarian protection are being normalized.

Anyone entering the United States without sufficient documentation for legal entry is not eligible for asylum, with the exception of undocumented unaccompanied children, the US Department of Justice and Homeland Security reports.

The directive takes effect on May 11, lasts two years, and affects the vast majority of migrants who transit other countries until they reach Mexico’s northern border illegally. (ALH)
