Biden is traveling to New York for two Democrats who are facing difficult midterms

President Joe Biden is joined by two House Democrats in tough running Thursday as he celebrates a new $20 billion investment by IBM in New York’s Hudson River Valley.

Biden is traveling to Poughkeepsie for the event, where he will be joined by New York Representatives Sean Patrick Maloney and Pat Ryan.

The president will visit the factory, meet with workers and announce the number of manufacturing jobs created during what the White House is calling a “manufacturing boom.”

Biden has gotten bad marks from voters for his handling of inflation and the economy as Americans show their frustration with high prices for food, gas and housing.

But the administration has backed down by pointing to the high number of jobs created during Biden’s presidency.

“During this administration, our economy has added nearly 10 million new jobs and more than 668,000 manufacturing jobs – proof that ‘Made in America’ is no longer just a slogan under this administration. Under President Biden, we’re building a bottom-up, middle-out economy where we cut costs and create good-paying jobs for our families by making it here in America,” a White House official said before the Trip.

IBM’s investment was prompted by the passage of the $280 billion CHIPS bill this summer, designed to boost the US semiconductor industry and scientific research.

The CHIPS and Science Act, which Biden signed into law in August, received bipartisan support.

On Tuesday, Micron Technology announced it will invest up to $100 billion over the next 20+ years to build a semiconductor factory in New York that is expected to create nearly 50,000 jobs.

Biden has attempted to leverage these types of economic investments ahead of the Nov. 8 election that will decide Congressional control.

Last month he traveled to Ohio to work at the site of Intel Corp.’s proposed $20 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility. to speak. Ohio has important House, Senate and Board of Governors races this year.

Some Democrats have kept Biden at bay this election cycle. But Rep. Maloney and Ryan, who are in tough house races, will be by his side on Thursday.

Maloney, chairman of the Democratic congressional campaign, is up against Republican Congressman Mike Lawler in New York’s 17th district.

Ryan takes on MP Colin Schmitt in the 18th District.

The two men, like many other New York congressmen, have seen their districts redraw as part of the new election process.

Ryan won a close special election in August to serve out the mandate of Democrat Antonio Delgado, who vacated his seat in the House of Representatives after being named lieutenant governor by Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. Ryan is running for a full term.

Maloney moved from the 18th to the 17th Ward after his Hudson Valley home fell within the boundaries of the 18th Ward as part of the reorganization.

Hochul, who took office last year after Democrat Andrew Cuomo resigned over sexual harassment allegations, is also scheduled to meet with Biden. She wants to win a full term against Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin in next month’s election.

Additionally, Biden will hit the donation circuit on Thursday.

He will be stopping in central New Jersey for a fundraiser at Gov. Phil Murphy’s home in support of the Democratic National Committee.

He then heads to New York City for a Democratic Senatorial Committee fundraiser hosted by James Murdoch, son of News Corp. editor Rupert Murdoch.

James Murdoch and his wife Kathryn were major donors to Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.

In 2020, Murdoch resigned from the Board of Directors of News Corp due to disagreements over editorial content at his father’s company, which operates Fox News, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post. return.
