A new poll shows that US citizen approval ratings for President Joe Biden fell to the lowest point of his tenure in May as pessimism deepens among members of his own Democratic Party.

Only 39% of American adults approve of Biden’s performance as President, according to Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Research poll. The value is below the already negative ratings of the previous month.

Usually, only about 2 in 10 adults say the United States is moving in the right direction or that the economy is good, but both numbers are down from 3 out of 10 in the previous month. These drops focused on Democrats. Only 33% of the president’s supporters believe the country is moving in the right direction, down from 49% in April.

As the United States approaches the presidential election, Biden’s approval rating among Democrats, which sits at 73%, a significant drop from the level he was in the early moments of his presidency, is an issue of particular concern to Biden.

In AP-NORC surveys conducted in 2021 Biden’s approval rating among Democrats never fell below 82%.
