Biden speech today: President wants Russia expelled from G20, hopes to be able to visit refugees in Poland

Joe Biden talks about the “new world order” in his address at the Business Roundtable.

President Joe Biden wants Russia excluded from the G20, but stressed that it was the organization’s decision, adding that an alternative would be for Ukraine to participate as an observer.

Mr. Biden spoke about the invasion of Ukraine at a press conference at NATO headquarters after meetings with leaders of both the alliance and the G7 on an extraordinary summit day in Brussels.

The President also said he warned China not to help Russia or risk its economy; there would be an appropriate response to the use of chemical weapons; and that he will probably visit refugees at the Polish border tomorrow.

Mr. Biden is now meeting with the European Council on a day focused on Allied unity.

At the meetings on Thursday, military aid for Ukraine, new sanctions against Russia and strengthening defenses in Eastern Europe will be coordinated with the NATO allies. The US has now officially accused the Russian armed forces of war crimes in Ukraine.

The US also announced it will take in 100,000 refugees displaced by the Russian invasion — one of the country’s largest refugee intakes in years.

At home, the latest polls show that a majority of Americans want the president to take a tougher stance on Russia, while his approval ratings remain unchanged since the conflict in Europe began.
