President Joe Biden’s approval rating hit a new low on Friday (May 20), according to the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Research poll.
With partisan and corporate frustration hanging over the Biden administration, the president’s approval rating fell to an all-time low of 39 percent. According to The Hill, Biden’s low ratings highlight the hurdles the Democratic Party will face on the road to midterm elections.
The AP poll found that 20 percent of American adults believe the economy is in good shape, up from 30 percent last month. 33 percent of Democrats believe the country is moving in the right direction, down 49 percent from the previous month.
Soaring prices for gas, groceries, airline tickets and other commodities have complicated Biden’s approval for months. More recently, supply chain problems have caused bottlenecks in baby formula across the country, leaving many Americans frustrated with administration.
The latest AP poll found that just 18 percent of adults think the president’s policies have helped the economy more than harmed it. This compares to 51 percent who said the current government has done more harm than good.
According to The Hill, White House officials argue their policies are effective but see a need to let Americans know what the government is doing to stimulate the economy.
As November’s midterm elections draw closer, a surge in approval ratings could help Democrats hold onto their narrow majority in the House and Senate, reports The Hill.
