Joe Biden’s son and brother were subpoenaed on Wednesday by a US congressional committee in the hands of the Republican opposition that was leading an impeachment inquiry into the president.

Conservatives, who have held the majority in the House of Representatives since January, accuse the Democratic leader of lying to the American people about his youngest son Hunter’s controversial affairs abroad. Which the president categorically denies.
Elected officials have particularly criticized Hunter Biden for conducting questionable business dealings in Ukraine and China while exploiting his father’s name and networks during Joe Biden’s tenure as Barack Obama’s vice president (2009-2017).
“The House Investigations Committee pursued the financial trail and collected a body of evidence showing how Joe Biden knew about, participated in and benefited from his family’s influence schemes,” its chairman James Comer said in a press release.
The influential elected Republican called the president’s son and brother, James Biden, before Congress in early December “to question them about this evidence.”
This investigation is being fiercely contested by Democrats.
“This is an investigation that has dragged on for over a year and has not uncovered any misconduct by the president, simply because there was none,” said White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.
The investigation has almost no chance of success but could become a headache for the White House ahead of the 2024 presidential election in which Joe Biden is running.
