The technology expert and law professor will return to his chair at Columbia, having served at the National Economic Council as a special assistant to the president in this area since March 2021.
Wu was the architect of Biden’s executive order in 2021, which directed agencies across the federal government to encourage competition in sectors such as technology, healthcare, transportation and agriculture.
Additionally, he helped lead the White House push in a largely unsuccessful attempt to pass new antitrust legislation for the technology sector.
Upon the officer’s departure, his portfolio is divided among the current employees of the Executive Mansion.
Hannah Garden-Monheit will be in charge of competition policy, having worked on the issue alongside Wu since joining the Biden administration.
Elizabeth Kelly, who has headed the Council on Digital Asset Affairs since early 2022, will address technology policy issues.
